Some of my favorites this year - quick notes
LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE- laughed more than I have in a long, long time
MARIE ANTOINETTE - wonderfully experimental and fresh
THE ROAD TO GUANTANAMO - chilling
WHO KILLED THE ELECTRIC CAR? - maddening - and of course GM denies that the film has had any bearing on their decision to once again begin producing electric cars
THE QUEEN- brilliant performance by MirrenDisappointing: BABEL - excellent plot, excellent message. The execution: long, long, and did I say long - fell asleep for a couple of minutes in the first 15 minutes and I wasn't tired.
Haven't seen the rest of the Oscar picks at this point.

Could give you whiplash...
Gas prices went from $1.81/gallon yesterday at 10:00 am to $1.99/gallon tonight at 10:00 pm at the local convenience store. Confounds the conventional wisdom that it takes six weeks for changes in the price of crude to get to the pump.
Could be a new betting line in Vegas...odds on how long it takes the price differential to get from the OPEC table to the pump.

Round two
Can't tell it from the picture, but it's snowing like mad again and there are a hundred or more birds in the backyard.

The future of cinema
A recent article in the New Yorker by David Denby examines the current and future state of Hollywood cinema. In addition to digital innovation, one of the current trends is the opulent picture palace. The latest is ArcLight in Hollywood near Sunset and Vine, featuring doublewide retractable armrests, reserved seats, martinis and expresso in the lobby and signature popcorn.

Albino deer
These pictures of an albino deer were forwarded to me by my mother and an administrator at the assisted living facility where my mother lives. The administrator and her husband found the orphaned deer wandering in their yard. They gave the deer to a rehab center.

Dreams
My dreams have been murky lately, not remembering much, just snippets, however, I do remember one snippet that jolted me. I was moving around, happily doing things, when a huge metal garage door slammed down in front of me, effectively ending my forward movement, at least for the moment. Rather unsettling. I'm planning on this barrier being temporary.
