Went to see THE MARCH OF THE PENGUINS this evening. The film was beautiful- a respite from the heat.

July early morning rainbow. I heard it was a double but by the time I got there it was a single.

The editing process continues.

I am reminded of the value of focusing on the infinitesimal.

Went to my niece's wedding on Saturday - a lot of fun - cowboy motif. Looked for a coffee shop in town - finally found an expresso bar in the back of an historic restaurant. Browsed through a used bookstore that had actual classics on the shelves. The owner lamented that independently owned bookstores are closing at a rapid rate, citing the case of Larry McMurtry's locking the doors and walking away from his considerable collection. The good news is that he is reconsidering the decision to close up shop.

Saying in a fortune cookie I got today:

"Good luck is often with the man who doesn't include it in his plans".

Mr. Turtle came to visit this morning as I stepped outside to go to the office - haven't seen much of the turtle for a couple of years. Mr. Turtle is an ornate box turtle and has lived and hibernated here for a few years. Would see him making the journey through the yard to hibernate somewhere down by the creek. He escaped near death one year after being run over by the lawn mower - just some scarring of his shell. Actually, Mr. Turle turned out to be Mrs. Turtle. One year, several babies hatched. This appears to be one of the babies - no scarring on the shell. Speedy too - in the time it took me to get the camera - the turtle had moved 4 yards around the corner and was making tracks toward home. Turtle was patient (or scared) enough to stop long enough for me to take a few shots. He had a fairly large insect in its mouth from morning foraging. Nice to see Mr. Turtle.

On the 4th of July, a copper object will be dropped into a comet named Tempel I, no less, to see what happens. I'm as curious as the next guy to see what happens. That said, picture this:

Scenario 1: Nothing happens.

Scenario 2: A massive shock wave results.

Scenario 3: Little green men come running out of the crater, shaking their fists and swearing, wondering what's happened.

Scenario 4: A perfectly formed fireworks flag shoots from the crater, accompanied by sound effects of an appropriate national anthem.
