The
Muse showed up yesterday and stayed all day, after little creative
inspiration for weeks. Felt like a cooling drink of water.
After
a couple of months of fairly constant changes in my life, I woke
up this morning to a return to routine. Threw in a load of laundry,
did my morning cogitation/meditation, wrote in the journal and
pulled out the diss. Looked at it and prepared to do editing changes
on written copy and schedule related appointments for next week.
Threw in another load of laundry, and cooked breakfast after a
hiatus of a couple of months from the kitchen. Microwaved bacon
and put some blueberry muffins in the oven, breaking the rule of
not using the oven after Memorial Day (undoubtedly related to The
Grandmother Gene). While the muffins were baking, weedeated
the parking in front in preparation for the annual city festival
this weekend, Territorial
Days. The grass wasn't very tall compared to a month ago when
it got completely out of hand - a foot and a half, at least. Tall
enough for the city to send out a friendly reminder that if it
wasn't cut, they would do it and bill me.

At
home, a screeching owl landed on the roof in the middle of the night
and immediately the cat flew through the cat door. As a former wild
cat who fended for himself for a few years, he doesn't scare easily.
The owls have a wide choice of food here and have not bothered the
domestic animals before, so I'm not sure what they are up to. Wildlife
abounds near the wooded creek in the backyard and the open fields
nearby.

Tomorrow
I'll be on the east coast for a week with my sister at the beach
- a working vacation. Upates will be sporadic for a week or so.
Last
night a thunderstorm/tornado cell sat over the trailer from 5:00
pm until 2:00 am. I gave up and watched a movie - Sideways. It
was enough to distract me from the constant thunder. I don't mind
a little thunder and rain, but...please.
All
of this activity has produced some creative ferment in the form
of a conceptual idea for film.

At
home, a tornado watch produced some nice visuals.

Drove
home through the Flint Hills in hot, muggy winds.

to the hospital. The surgery took place and was successful.

More

Torrential rains
have swollen the Kaw River over its banks. A family member was scheduled
for emergency surgery, so I drove a couple of hours to the hospital.
A tornado warning forced all the patients and visitors into the hall
for a brief period of time.
Started
this month with the intention of doing a pictures only journal; however,
a lot has happened in a few days, so text will be added. Drove to Kansas
City as part of work and stopped by Union Station. Beautiful structure
and ambience.
