Seems
that everyone breathes a collective sigh of relief when the Memorial
weekend rolls around, happy to be through the drought of holidays
from January to May.
One
of the current tie-ins to Star Wars is the lightsaber spoon that
came in the cereal box. Can't really eat with it lit because you
have to depress the on button continuously.

The
last two birds flew out of the nest on the porch today, helped along
by my attempt to get too close with the camera. They were grown and
capable of flying, although a bit disturbed to be out on their own
unexpectedly.
A
couple of questions from the land of the absurd - why is the receipt
dispenser of the ATM placed as far as possible from the driver's
reach? And why do businesses unlock only one door, usually the illogical
left one, when there are two doors to the entrance?
Ever
have one of those periods of your life when you try to get something
done and a piece is missing, fix that and so on.... I believe it's
called putting out brush fires. Working on what appears to be a software
issue, used the search engine and found nothing...go to the official
site and there the answer is - may be at the bottom of the page,
but it's there, and it's oh, so simple.
Last
night I started my page of top 100 films. So far I have 38, so it
will be called top 38 and I'll add on. My
choice of top films are my preference according to professional standards,
personal favorites and "guilty pleasures," in no particular
order.
Today
the first baby bird flew the nest, the parents hovering, as it flew
out of the porch entryway. Two more are awaiting takeoff. The cat
was sleeping somewhere in the yard at the time.
I watched the film, Lumiere and Company; it
has possibilities in film lectures for viewing the philosophy of directors
and also for the opportunity to see the behind-the-scenes methods of established
film directors.
Drove
into Kansas City today. Construction everywhere - took an extra 15
minutes to get to the designated spot. A sure sign of summer.
I wanted to see Sin City, but it's already gone. Doesn't
seem like it was here very long.
I've
written some long, involved pieces that are basically diatribes about
various things that probably aren't fit for print. I've learned I
shouldn't write when I'm very tired or hungry. All my comments come
out sounding whiny.
The
past six weeks have been a strange period of time. Watermelon in
Easter Hay pretty much captures the mood.
Yesterday
was the perfect day with sun, a few fluffy clouds and 80 degrees.
The eggs in the bird's nest on the porch have hatched. Makes for
an interesting dance getting out the front door. I haven't been able
to get a picture without completely disturbing the nest.
Bridge
over the Kansas (Kaw) River. A new boat ramp is currently under construction
on the opposite shore.

A lot
of storms went through today.

An
online journal has been a dream of mine for a long time, so I'm happy
to be here. I'll be talking about whatever crosses my mind. Updates
will be irregular.
A
small bird has built a nest in the light fixture on the porch. It's
been a very cold spring so the nest is very round and made of fur.
During the day, she flies away whenever I open the door, but during
the night, she sits tight. Just a small head with two eyes peeking
over the edge of the nest.
